How a Piece of Fine Furniture is Born: The Craftsmanship Behind

Wood furniture making in Oak Furniture Store is rather a tedious and sophisticated process of turning logs of wood into fine functional artwork. It undergoes several complex steps, all of which add up to make the finished product more durable, beautiful, and full of character. Let's take a closer look at these phases:

Material Selection

What types of wood have we used?

90% of the wood we select is high-grade imported timber sourced from North America and Europe. The following information will help you quickly find the wood you desire.

The selection of material is essentially the first step in the creation of good furniture. In fact, while making any piece, the quality of the wood is crucial since it allows for variations in overall quality, durability, and beauty. We only use FAS-grade wood, which is high-quality timber with long clear surfaces, minimal color variation, and few knots.

Depending on strength, grain, and color, the best solid wood—oak, walnut, cherry, or pine—is chosen for the task at hand. Varied furniture might have significantly varied attributes depending on the peculiarities of the wood. For instance, oak is extremely resilient, with an almost very pronounced grain pattern, making it very popular for dining tables.

Nourishing

One should first select the right wood, then it needs to be effectively dried to remove some of the moisture in the wood. This is very important if it is to counter future cracking, warping, or other kinds of deformation. Properly dried wood facilitates the retention of form for a very long time, thus offering the owner long-term value.

Cutting and Panel Joint

What makes our wood so good?

After selecting and drying the wood, it's cut into boards, strips, and blocks based on the design. This step is crucial for forming the furniture's base structure. The wood panels are pressed to increase strength and durability, ensuring strong joints and preventing structural issues. Fine processing then smooths and perfects the wood, making it ready for treatments and finishes. Various wood pieces are joined to create larger panels using traditional joints or modern adhesives, resulting in a strong and visually appealing final product with seamless connections.

Assembly

This is the assembly phase where all the pieces come together to form the structure of your furniture. Precision is key to ensuring stability and durability. The frame pieces are securely attached using mortise and tenon joints, screws, or glue depending on the design and durability needed. For example, our bedroom furniture uses strong mortise and tenon joints.

Next, the panels are glued to the frame, ensuring they are perfectly aligned for a smooth and seamless look, which is crucial for both appearance and stability. Finally, drawer slides and door hinges are installed to ensure everything functions smoothly. At this stage, the attention to detail highlights the quality, combining beauty with functionality.

Decoration and Detailing

Decoration and detailing are where the furniture truly becomes an art form, adding the finishing touches that give it charm and character. Artistic hand carving, inlaying, and other detailed work enhance the furniture’s artistic value. From simple engravings to intricate patterns, these decorative elements give each piece its unique character. The edges are carefully chamfered, sanded, and treated for both safety and aesthetics, making every part functional and visually appealing, contributing to the overall elegance of the furniture.

Finishing & Packaging

Four Rounds of Sanding

Using both machine and hand sanding techniques for four rounds of sanding. This meticulous approach ensures that the surface is exceptionally smooth and fine to the touch. Each sanding step is carefully executed to eliminate any imperfections, gradually refining the wood's texture. The combination of machine precision and the artisan's hand ensures a perfect balance between efficiency and craftsmanship. This attention to detail results in a finish that not only looks flawless but also feels luxurious, enhancing the overall quality and tactile experience of the furniture.

Finishing and Painting

Four times of open spraying comprising two coats of primer and two topcoats. Each layer is carefully applied to ensure an even and protective finish. After each application, the furniture undergoes a 72-hour drying and ventilation period to ensure that the finish fully cures, resulting in a durable and smooth surface. This process is designed not only to enhance the appearance and longevity of the furniture but also to prioritize environmental safety. The use of eco-friendly, low-VOC materials ensures that the final product is free from harmful odors, making it safe for indoor use and contributing to a healthier living environment. Surface treatment is the last process in making furniture. This is where the furniture is prepared for use and the natural beauty enhanced.

What high-quality paints do we use?

We use custom eco-friendly clear coats with strict standards, ensuring minimal odor and protecting the environment. Our green plant-based wood wax oil is extracted from linseed oil and Brazilian palm wax. Harmful substances like formaldehyde and benzene are nearly non-existent, making it ideal for our premium black walnut series.

Quality inspection with packaging

The furniture undergoes a strict quality inspection before leaving the workshop to ensure it's perfect. Any flaws are carefully checked to guarantee the furniture is not only beautiful but also strong, functional, and durable. It's then carefully packaged to prevent damage during transit, ensuring it arrives at your doorstep in good condition, ready for use. It simply means that making furniture with solid wood not only reflects the quantum of skill and hard work that has gone into making it but also involves the amount of attention to detail that needs to be invested in making high-quality pieces. Right from the painful selection of wood to the final surface treatment, every process is undertaken and strictly adhered to in a manner that gives rise to furniture turning out to be not only beautiful and rugged but art in itself.
